Are you getting started in Quantified Performance precision gas gun matches or building a gun specifically for the series? We're stoked to hear! We've assembled the guidelines for each division in this article, based on the latest rule changes for the 2025 season. After reviewing the rules, be sure to check out our interviews with the 2023 season champions from each division to find out how the pros built their guns for 2024!
At Quantified Performance matches, all shooters will shoot the same course of fire regardless of division. At most events, there will be stages that are biased toward smaller, lighter guns, and there will be stages geared toward heavier, ballistically efficient guns. This mix of stages is usually well balanced. Regarding the ruleset, there are a few overarching requirements that apply to rifles in all divisions:
Projectile velocity may not exceed 3200 fps
There is no limitation on cartridge or caliber in any division
General Purpose
The General Purpose, or GP division, is intended for do-all rifles with a relatively low barrier to entry. This is the division where you'll see LPVOs, ACOGs, and similar lower-power optics on shorter rifles and carbines, like 16" or 14.5" guns. Here's the ruleset for a rifle in the GP division:
Barrel may not exceed 16.5" when measured from the closed bolt face to the barrel's muzzle (QP notes that the muzzle applies to the barrel crown, NOT the muzzle device or end of a suppressor).
Available magnification on the main optic may not exceed 8.5x on the high end; However, optics with magnification higher than 8.5x can be used if the low end magnification is 1.2x or below.
This optic rule confuses a lot of shooters, so some examples are below:
The Nightforce ATACR and NX8 1-8x is legal
The Vortex 1-10x, Eotech Vudu 1-10x, and Trijicon 1-10x are legal (low end is below 1.2x)
The Leupold 2-10x is NOT legal (low end is greater than 1.2x)
The March 1.5-15x is NOT legal (low end is greater than 1.2x)
There is no limit to magazine capacity
Practical Precision
Practical Precision, or PP, is what some might call the true SPR/DMR division. Rifles in this division are typically purpose-built for long range shooting based on the Special Purpose Rifle / Designated Marksman Rifle concepts.
Barrel may not exceed 20.5" when measured from the closed bolt face to the barrel's muzzle (QP notes that the muzzle applies to the barrel crown, NOT the muzzle device or end of a suppressor).
No limitation on optics or magnification
Magazine capacity may not exceed 20 rounds.
It's important to note that the magazine itself cannot be capable of accepting more than 20 rounds, ie, a shooter in this division may NOT use a 30-round magazine that is only loaded to 20 rounds.
Open
Open division is pretty much a no-holds barred arena. This division typically carries extreme purpose-built guns intended to perform at this specific match.
There is no restriction on barrel length, but barrels longer than 20.5" will automatically move to Open division
There is no restriction on optics or magnification
There is no restriction on magazine capacity
